Happy Birthday Dogly!

My little Milo is 10 today!

He is such a cute boy 🙂

So, for his birthday…I made some little dog biscuits from a doggy recipe book that my boy got me for Christmas. They are carrot and banana, I’m sure he’ll like them 😉

Here’s the recipe in case you have a little dogly that needs some yummy homemade treats!

Carrot and Banana Bites.

2 carrots, grated

2 bananas mashed

200g Plain flour

100g Porridge oats

20ml Sunflower oil

a little water

Preheat the oven to Gas mark 4 (180 C).

Mix the grated carrot, mashed banana, oats and flour with the oil to make a dough. Add a small bit of water if it is too dry. Roll the dough out on a floured surface until it is 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into 1 1/2 inch squares and place on a baking tray (I used a silicon baking mat on top of the tray so that the biscuits wouldn’t stick).

Bake in the oven for 30 minutes and then switch the oven off and leave the biscuits in there for around two hours until hardened and cool.

Store in an airtight container.

Biscuits should last for around 10 days…but will probably be eaten long before then!

I rescued Milo from Bath Cats and Dogs home in February 2006. He had been there for two years and previous to that he had been beaten, generally he hadn’t had a good life.

But then I got him and loved him right away. He is the first dog I have ever had so I wasn’t sure what to do at first but all was well and Milo loved me as much as I loved him.

A year after I rescued him he had a fit (seizure). The vet said he was epileptic and he had to go on medication. At one point he had a massive fit and had to stay in over night and have an IV put in his arm.

He averages at two fits per year now and the epilepsy is mostly under control.

A couple of years ago, he had an operation on his eye as his third eyelid had torn. He was very brave. I gave the vet his blankey so that he had something familiar with him and when I got him back he was very groggy but so happy to see me!

Everyone who meets Milo seems to love him. He’s very cheeky but it does make me laugh when he is and he’s so cute that he gets away with it too.

When my Dad comes round it makes Milo scream and cry like a baby because he loves him so much. He also loves my lovely boy and licks his face when he gets home from work.

When I am ill and need to stay in bed, Milo stays with me and refuses to leave the room…he even growls at people who try to get him to leave.

He loves walks…he loves food, especially strawberries, cheese, chicken and chewy dental sticks. My Mum always puts a Christmas dinner by for him on Christmas day so that he doesn’t get left out.

Milo at Christmas

Have a lovely day my sweet little pup.

Kinki Amibari

“Whaa?”, I hear you cry, “What is that?”

Kinki Amibari is also known as KA and they make all kinds of knitting tools! See…not as bad as you were thinking 😉

The very lovely pinkfeather has an eBay shop that sells KA products (check it out here) asked if I would try out the KA interchangeable needles and let everyone know what they were like…so here goes!

I asked for 4mm tips (5 inches long…I know, I mix metric and imperial measurements…sorry) with a 36 inch cable.

I have so far used it to knit a couple of cupcakes

and I have started on a sweater for my dog!

The screw in tips are easy to use and even with my hands being quite sore at times, they were fine for me to screw in place (although I do find it tricky to unscrew them)

The bamboo needle tips are quite smooth and, compared to metal, it is much warmer on your hands…but I also found that in the heat wave we had for a day here in the UK the bamboo tips were cooler than metal and not as slippy…so good for all weathers!

I did find that the bamboo wasnt quite as smooth as the KnitPro Symfonie (wood) needles I have tried and the tips weren’t as pointy as I like…but those things were by the by. I imagine the light colour of the bamboo will be better for a lot of people than the random KnitPro colours.

The cable is good and I dunked it in hot water just to get the curl out of it, which worked a treat.

Overall, the needle was comfy to work with and the screw-in tips stayed put; I never once had an issue with them coming unscrewed.

Pinkfeather currently has an eBay shop that sells KA needles…but will be getting her own online shop at some point, you can keep up to date with that at her blog here.

In the UK, I have no idea of anywhere else that sells KA so it’s good to know!

Thanks pinkfeather!

Some Sunday Loveliness

The weather here is not right for June, not at all…what is with all the rain?!

Anyway, seeing as it’s ‘nice weather for ducks’ I thought I would go with a duck-theme for today’s loveliness…enjoy!

First of all…a duck  on a duck…

*Quack!*

Next we have The Fat Duck

…the three Michelin star restaurant where Heston Blumenthal

…carries out his crazy food experiments.

I’d love to go there but it’s about £160 per person! Eep!

How about a glow in the dark rubber ducky instead?

*click picture for link to buy*

He costs £1.25 from Toyday and they do have lots of different duckies as well!

I’ve never had a rubber duck as far as I can remember…I might get me one!

This next one is for my dad seeing as it’s Fathers’ Day!

“I could dance with you till the cows come home. On second thought, I’d rather dance with the cows till you came home.”

Duck Soup starring the Marx Brothers…just for you, Daddy!

I love this next one…

By Margaret Zellner

How cute is that?! Knitted duck feet for babies…I wonder if I could make them for dog…hmm…

This is a free pattern by Margaret Zellner and if you click the picture above it will take you to the Ravelry page for it.

How about duck-shaped cookies?

This cute little cookie was made for a baby shower…but I’m sure it would do just as well at a duck-themed party 🙂

Hope you enjoyed the ducks!

Yay Cake!

Well, it’s a grey and rainy Saturday and we all need something to cheer us up I’m sure. So I found this picture of an amazing cake to do the job!

I really like those lop-sided cakes and this one has amazing colours!

Don’t forget to enter the Posh Yarn competition, if you havent done already. It finishes on the 30th June.

Tomorrow I shall be trying to remind you all that, yes, it is actually June and , yes, it should be summer!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Happy things on a less than happy day

Ok…not having a good day at all…make that a good week…or even month now I think about it. I told you all about my M.E. on M.E. awareness day (see this post) and it’s that which is causing me such huge amounts of pain and extreme fatigue…I havent been out of my bed for a long while and it’s really getting to me now. So, because of this, I decided it’s time for a lovely cheery post! 😀

First of all we have this…

It is the most gorgeous yarn is oranges and yellows…it’s from Posh Yarn (they are my favourite!) and the colourway is called ‘If You’re Happy And You Know It’…brilliant name!

Next we have…

Dogs explore new way to hug

Cant beat a couple of dogs hugging to cheer you up! (Thank you to my lovely sister who sent me this picture)

Third we have…

…a very cheerful cake! Cake always cheers me up at this one looks so happy and bright!

Don’t forget about the competition too! You still have time to comment on the competition post to enter…it runs until the end of May. So many goodies are on offer…the current list is: metal, hanging heart decoration, striped A4 notebook, a big bag of sweets, cupcake printed doilies.

If more comments are posted then it means more will be added to the prize! And I have something awesome to be added next if enough comments are reached!

I shall leave you with this…

Another Posh Yarn arrival in purples, blues, greens and dark pink. It’s Martha DK yarn which is 80% merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon…and the colour is called ‘Talk Like A Pirate’. Seeing as I do actually talk like a pirate, this is the perfect yarn for me!

Stay lovely.

Lots of Love,

Edible luggage...the best kind

And not only is it all beautiful but you can eat it!
